Hello and welcome to WorldofBuildings.com! WoB is an architectural and construction reference tool which is free and open for anyone to explore, share, edit and add to.
WoB was created with the simple belief that architectural inspiration and knowledge can be found everywhere -- from a small stone and wood house in a rural area to a skyscraper in a modern city. The world is made up of an incredible amount of 'built' inspiration and WoB hopes to make it just a little bit easier for everyone to display and access this information.
Focusing on three basic parts of the built world - the Buildings which surround us; the Materials that went into these buildings; and the People that made it all happen - WoB provides a platform where this world can be recorded, shared and learnt from.

One of the five classical orders, characterized by capitals with spiral elements called "volutes," a fasciated entablature, continuous frieze, dentils in its cornice, and by its elegant detailing.
A king post is the vertical member of a simple truss which runs from the bottom chord of the truss to the high-point where the two top chord members meet. The king post dissects the single triangle of the truss and splits the truss into two smaller trusses usually of equal size / shape.

Lamella roof is a curved roof framed by a system of intersecting skewed arches made up of relatively short members called lamellas. Each short member intersects with another member of the opposite skewed arch as each member works to form one long arch.
Lamella roof construction was invented in Europe in 1908 and introduced in the United States in 1925. Since that time numerous buildings have been constructed with lamella roofs, however, due to failures, the use of lamella roofs has diminished since the 1970's.
